11 am – 8 pm
If you’re looking for a good time in the Flint Hills this weekend, come out to HOT ALMA NIGHTS in Alma, Kansas, 4-8 pm. Come early to see the Scott Berroth Memorial Cruise for vintage cars. (if you don’t have a vintage car, you can take this tour on your own). The group will leave at 11:00 am from the north parking lot of the Wabaunsee County Courthouse and will head west on Old K-10 to view the old stone farm homes, the beautiful Flint Hills, and the newly restored Volland Store. Greg Hoots, curator of the exhibit, “In Focus: The Photography and Film of Otto Kratzer” will be there to answer questions and tell stories of Otto. After leaving the Volland Store, be sure to check out the one room school house (the old Volland School) while enjoying the scenic cruise to Alta Vista. In Alta Vista, park your car, eat some homemade ice cream made by the Masons, check out the Alta Vista Market, get a bite to eat at the Barnyard Cafe or just stretch your legs and stroll around this little town. After leaving Alta Vista, make your way back to Alma either via K-4 and Hwy 99 or return using Old K-10.
HOT ALMA NIGHTS is an old-fashioned Saturday night in the Flint Hills. Bring your classic car, park on Alma’s main drag and listen to the oldies while you pass hundreds of restored vehicles. Shop downtown Alma or visit the Wabaunsee County Historical Museum. Vendors will offer food and other merchandise in the City Park. Car Registration begins at 2 p.m. in downtown Alma. Hours are 4 to 8 pm.
The Volland Store hours are extended this Saturday, August 15, from 10 am to 5 pm. Sunday hours are noon to 5 pm.
