June 1-11, 2019
Zhang Hongtu, a Chinese-American artist living in Brooklyn, New York, traveled to Kansas in the Fall of 2018, for his first solo exhibit in the Midwest, which was presented at the Beach Museum of Art at K-State and curated by Aileen Wang.
While in Kansas, Hongtu renewed his earlier fascination with bison at the Konza Prairie near Manhattan, Kansas. He returned to Kansas in February to see bison in the snow. In June, he will witness the birthing season of bison while spending a residency in Volland and continuing to work on a new portfolio of work based on bison and the tallgrass prairie.
His wife Miaoling, will join him. Please help us welcome them to the Flint Hills.
Hongtu will speak at Volland on June 8 at 4 pm, along with this co-resident, poet Mary Pinard.
