Be inspired by art on paper, and create your own work at a Wax Paper Workshop with Chloe Schempf
Come to The Volland Store in the Flint Hills, enjoy the gallery filled with beautiful artwork (the current exhibit is Paper Giants), and be inspired to make your own creations in wax paper.
We will be exploring the art of traditional waxing techniques by using layers of color and opacity to build beautiful abstract collages.

Use your own personal creativity to explore new and innovative ways of transforming simple materials such as paper, paint, and wax into an abstract work of art.
The artist will demonstrate how participants can further transform their papers into gift bags, garlands, mobiles and window hangings.
Chloe hopes to inspire her participants to work freely in a rarely explored process of encaustic paper arts, a durable, waterproof and fascinating technique that has been around since the Middle Ages.
Chloe is an artist who is inspired by the the spirit of gift giving and the transformation of three simple materials (wax, paint, tissue) into unique and handcrafted items. She spent many years working as the visual display manager and artist for Free People and Anthropologie- conceptualizing and prototyping store displays and unique fixtures. In her time with Free People she often traveled to India to collaborate with local villagers and utilize their traditional skills to create innovative artwork with limited materials.
Chloe Schempf is a Kansas City native living in Manhattan KS with her husband and two children.
