It’s alive again! The original play, Heart/Roots: Wabaunsee County, opened a new chapter at Volland on the evenings of June 17 and 18, 2022. Stories of Wabaunsee County, past and present, were enacted by local actors whose performances were endearing, stimulating, challenging, funny, and moving. Ninety-five- degree heat, humidity, and three trains (on Saturday night) could not deter these hardy actors, nor did those circumstances distract the audience! Both were stellar evenings that will be wonderful memories for all who experienced them.
Overheard comments: “Whose story was that? Was that mine?” “I’m not from Wabaunsee County, but I related to those stories. They reminded me of my own grandparents.” “You played my story.” “I really liked the music.” “That’s my story!” “Wait. I never heard that story about my grandfather.” “We heard about the call for sharing stories, but we were hesitant, because we weren’t really sure what it was all about.” “I love this! Next year, I want to be on that stage.” “This feels like the beginning of a new life. Thank you!”
What’s next at the Volland Ruin? The possibilities are endless, and suggestions are flowing in – We want to know what YOU would like to see! Please share your ideas at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Patty Reece or Ryan Jones at 785-499-3616, leave a message, and we will return your call. To be continued….

We are so taken with Mary Pinard’s script of Heart/Roots: Wabaunsee County, that we have decided to publish it. We want it to have a life beyond this first performance. It will be something you can look at again and again – and share with your friends and children and grandchildren. If you miss hearing a line during the play, you will be able to find it again in this script and enjoy it at your leisure.
Beautifully designed by Marsha Jensen and printed by our friends at Copy Kats in Manhattan, KS, it will be available for sale at the end of each performance. In The Volland Store, and online beginning June 20.
$15 plus tax
