Abby was previously director of the Wabaunsee County Economic Development office, working with area businesses and communities to grow the local economy. She and her husband own and operate their family ranch near Volland. They have two daughters, Lauren and Madelyn.
Abby recently became a “work from home” mom, doing bookkeeping and tax preparation for Varney & Associates, CPAs. She holds a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in business and a masters of agri-business from Kansas State University.
Abby comes to Wabaunsee County from Southwest Kansas. She was born and raised outside of Garden City on her father’s family farm. Abby first started spending time on the ranch with her now husband, Winston, in 2004 – falling for the hills, the grass and the long standing native stone architecture.
“The first time I saw the Volland Store, I imagined great things for the building,” Abby said. “While I don’t have a personal connection to the store, Winston’s family, his grandmother and great-aunts and uncles all grew up spending holidays at the store, shopping at the store. His mother even stopped there on the school bus and remembers getting candy for the ride home.”
Abby’s role at the Volland Store includes coordinating with local events and activities, arranging local-use rentals, assisting patrons and opening and closing The Store as needed.
Note: as of October 1, 2017, Abby is on maternity leave. If you need assistance please contact Marci Spaw.
